1961 Photograph of astronaut Alan Shepard in full flight suit as part of the Mercury program. This image was taken at the height of the Space Race and at this point the Russians had taken the lead when they sent Yuri Gagarin into orbit shortly before this image was taken. This is a rare photo in his new suit, holding his helmet and smiling for the camera! Condition is exceptional grading nearly perfect and the classic government purple text on the back is a great touch cementing this as a vintage 1.
