Large 1938 portrait photograph of Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Honus Wagner as his career was transitioning from player to full time coach with the Pirates. While he retired about twenty years earlier, he was still very active in his job, hitting fungoes and getting down on the dirt with his fielders showing them the tricks of the trade. This image was taken intentionally close-up and capturing the legend with his intense glare that made him one of the greatest players to ever take the field. Issued by the Associated Press and stamped on the back, the photo has pinholes at the corners and some tracing of his face for publication but otherwise it is quite nice.
