1917 Photograph of French soldiers during the height of WWI creating deadly entanglements of barbed wire to trap and kill all those who came into contact with the barriers. Barbed wire is among the most tragic symbols of the war and its trench warfare tactics with this being one of the only images of soldiers working with the wire we have seen. Stamped on the back by the Western Newspaper Union and in great shape with a large paper caption as well.
