Original early 1920's artistic photograph of the hands of Ty Cobb, symbolically resting against the handle of his bat, well taped and hoping for another big season. While we have handled many images of Cobb over the years, this is the only image of it's type we have handled. Normally a photographer would ask a subject to show off his grip, but as Cobb was getting older we feel this was symbolic of his carrer nearing an end and his hands were "resting" on the bat. From a local photographer at the Detroit News, this is being offered here for the first time ever out of their archives and it is presents well. The 1951 file date is later and the handwriting is typical of their sports editor from the 1920's (we ahve handled thousands of sports photographs from this archive). A work of baseball art from the biggest name in the game during the deadball era!
