One of the most influential early figures in building the game of Baseball to its current popularity in the country of Japan, Herb Hunter was a former Major Leaguer with brief stints for several teams. Beginning in 1920 he was the organizing force behind a movement to bring Major League players (along with some Minor Leaguers) to barnstorm in Japan against the prominent teams in that country. Eventually he passed along the duties to Lefty O'Doul. He is best remembered today for being one of the major sparks helping to popularize the sport in Asia. Highly underrated figure in the history of baseball in Japan, this captures him in 1920 with the Red Sox and was taken by photographer Charles Conlon with his handwritten notes as well.
