In 1968 when the Apollo 8 crew took their jaunt into space, they did something that seems routine now, but was revolutionary at the time. They turned their camera backwards from the surface of the moon and took an image of Earth! When the pictures were brought back home, it was looked at as one of the most incredible set of photographs ever taken, really putting into perspective the minuscule sphere in which we live. Images of the earth taken by Apollo 8 are among the most desirable and this is among the earliest ever developed on full color paper and bearing the earliest version of the purple NASA stamp on the back. of all the full color NASA photos ever taken, this is perhaps the most desirable and visually stunning work of art. The depth of color and clarity is fantastic and rip on the far left border does not detract from the aesthetic excellence of the print. While we have seen a couple examples, this is the only one with the earliest purple text print on the back before NASA switched to a more ornate print before the Apollo 11 mission. Offered here for the first time ever, this is an important photograph that belongs in a museum or gallery!
