Lost in the saga of the RMS Titanic is that there was a real life inspiration for the character of "Jack" in the 1996 film, and his name was R. Norris Williams. He was the young man who broke down a door to save third class passengers prompting an employee to chastise him for destroying White Star Line property (as the ship was sinking). He floated in freezing water after the ship went down, and was told his legs needed to amputated. He refused and had to relearn to walk, and then became one of the top tennis players in the world! A rare image from one of the most famous passengers on the Titanic in great shape, this is a 1920's photo of Williams posing with fellow members of the American Davis Cup team. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and with a paper caption on the back as well, this is a nearly perfect specimen and one of the only original images of Williams we have seen!
