Babe Didrikson was a relatively unknown heading into the 1932 Olympic Games in California. A year earlier, she was an unknown entity in her own country, but on THIS day she burst onto the scene by setting a new record for the 80 meter hurdles in Jersey City. Seen at the far right in the photograph, Babe is taking down the competition at the national track and field championships in Jersey City. There would be many more records for her in the future, but it all started here! Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well, this is a nearly perfect photograph and one that we have never seen before with a sweeping and dramatic action pose of Didrikson in mid-air!
