While not the first, George Grantham Bain was the most prolific early stock photographer that supplied images to newspapers and periodicals. Starting in the 1890's in New York, he dominated the industry during the first two decades of the 20th century taking some of the most desirable and beautiful baseball photographs of the era. The offered pair of items relate to the man himself, George Grantham Bain and include a photograph of him working at his desk as well as a handwritten and signed letter. The photo is in nice shape and appears to be a 1920's example. The letter was written as he was just starting his business in 1896 and refers to an article that was being written. This is the ONLY autograph of Bain we have ever seen and it is an important piece of sports memorabilia history!
