1910 Silver gelatin photograph of the overflow crowd at Hilltop Park in New York, the home of the Highlanders (Yankees) and taken during what was surely a big game! A rare image from brown brothers capturing one of the rarest and most desirable ballparks of the deadball era. Images of the ballpark itself are almost never seen and they usually exist only as backgrounds to game action. The image captures about a thousand fans, including some ladies, perched right on the outfield grass as the game is about to start. Scorecards and newspapers abound and the crowd is also integrated with a vender selling food and a police officer visible as well. The clarity is off the charts and the image is stamped by Brown brothers on the reverse. This is the only example of this photograph known and is a unique look at the genesis of the Yankees franchise!
