Important and fresh to the hobby, the offered photograph captures spring training hopeful with the weight of an entire race resting on his shoulders, Jackie Robinson in uniform with the Montreal Royals. He is seen here touching home plate after belting a homer against the parent club (Dodgers) as he continued to impress his boss (Branch Rickey) and earned a spot on the big league roster. A month or so later, he would break down barriers set during the height of Jim Crow and change the world in process by becoming the first black player to appear in a major league uniform! The offered specimen is a high grade silver gelatin masterpiece from a Cuban photographer (spring training for the Dodgers in 1947 took place in Havana) and it is a completely unique new discovery that is being offered here for the first time ever. This image could be hanging in a museum or gallery and it is without a doubt one of the most socially and historically important images we have ever had the pleasure of offering. The opportunity to add this gem like this to a collection does not come up often!
