c. 1929 Underwood and Underwood photograph of pioneer aviator Amy Johnson posing at the front engine of her plane. One of the first British women to take hold of the new genre after Amelia Earhart did so in America, she was the first to fly from London to Australia non-stop and died while flying in 1941.
