Casey Stengel was called up for 17 games by the Brooklyn Dodgers at the end of the 1912 season, but 1913 was the year the young outfielder would actually become a major leaguer. Here the spring training hopeful poses in his domain, the outfield in full Brooklyn uniform and using an amazing Bull Durham sign as the perfect backdrop. From Stengel's own personal scrapbook, the date of 1913 on the front was done in his hand. The clarity is beautiful and this has to be one of the earliest and most significant images of Stengel ever offered. While there is a rip on the lower right, the image presents well and none of the damage comes close to Stengel.
