In 1909 when Comiskey Park opened to the public, it was one of the marvels of the baseball world. Along with Forbes Field it was an innovative structure that sought to capitalize on baseball as a business and it worked! Soon imitations would pop up all across the major leagues but Comiskey was the first in the American League of the new modern ballparks. Offered here is an early (c. 1919) photograph of the outside entrance to ballpark with the grand words " Comiskey Park-Home of the White Sox" across the front. Oh to be a baseball fan in Chicago a hundred years ago!
