The story of Eddie Grant deserves to be told and remembered as one of courage and sacrifice. He was a household name nearly 100 years ago when he became the first Major League Baseball Player killed in WWI, but his efforts have been largely forgotten today. Harvard educated, Grant was a popular and talented ballplayer from 1905-1915 when he announced his retirement to practice Law in 1916. He became the first ballplayer to enlist in WWI and gave his life for his country on October 5, 1918 in the famed Argonne Forest. The offered image is a fantastic early batting photo in uniform with the Phillies in 1910 and taken by photographer Paul Thompson. Comes precertified by PSA and the condition is perfect. A 10/10 of an important player by a famous photographer.
