The first Filipino boxing sensation, Francisco Guilledo (known as Pancho Villa) took the world by storm winning 88 matches before this scheduled July 4, 1925 fight at Oakland Oaks stadium in California. In the days leading up to the fight (possibly happening when this photo was taken) a tooth of his became infected. He had it removed the morning of his fight and despite favoring the side of his face and in excruciating pain, he battled for the entire duration losing by decision. In the days that followed he had more teeth removed but the infection combined with the fight was too much and he died a few weeks after the bout. The offered image from a San Francisco photographer is one of the last images of Villa ever taken and it presents spectacularly well with great artwork done for publication. In fact, the newspaper article on the back mentions it was the last posed photo ever taken of Villa!
