1961 Photograph of Mickey Mantle who was at the time in the midst of a home run chase with Roger Maris as he poses in the locker room with the superstar of a previous generation, Joe DiMaggio. Mantle is wearing his uniform and holding his bat that he just used to blast two homers, but more importantly the second one passed DiMaggio on the all-time home run list (his 362nd). An important image as these two men were compared to each other from the day Mantle arrived in 1951 and this photo shows Mickey finally overtaking the great Yankee Clipper! Photo presents well with some artistic lines drawn on for framing by an artist at the newspaper nearly sixty years ago.
