While the "Rookie of the Year" trophy is a big deal now, in 1944 it was not something that was thought of as a major award. When Billy Johnson from the New York Yankees was given the trophy in 1944, he was in the military and they went ahead and awarded it to his teammate on his behalf! Rare photograph of the trophy itself with an interesting story attached. Issued by International News and in nice shape overall with one small bend. This is an image we have never seen before.
