One of the greatest casualties of the color barrier that prevented black ballplayers from the major leagues, Willard Brown was an absolute beast at the plate, but was not given a chance in the show until he was well past his prime. The offered photograph is the only original example of this pose (his most famous image ever taken) in full uniform with the Kansas City Monarchs that we have ever seen and it displays beautifully. Crystal clear and with minimal wear, the photo grades almost perfectly and is quite simply the greatest image of Brown that we have ever seen in the hobby, period!
