If the story of Emory Titman wasn't true, you could never make it up, its that crazy. He was a lifelong A's fan who also had a bunch of money he inherited from his father. He was told around 1914 that he was dying and he decided to live each day to the fullest and he found no shortage of A's ballplayers that would help him blow it all. Chorus girls, food, booze and high living blew all his money, all the while serving as the A's mascot, even playing in spring training games with the team in full uniform that Connie Mack had made for him. And then he found out he wasn't dying after all. Now broke, he was helped along the way by the Athletics and various charities until he actually did die at 39 years of in 1928... weighing 587 pounds! The offered photo comes from the estate of Herb Pennock and pictures Titman on the field working out with the A's players in Hot Springs. The notes on the back are also from Pennock (or his wife) and describe in his words who Titman was. The image is a fantastic piece of unique baseball history being offered here for the first time ever!
