Vintage c. 1919 photograph of young pitcher Carl Mays from the New York Yankees as he is captured by photographer George Grantham Bain at the ballpark in a head to toe pose with his bat. A good pitcher with the Red Sox, 1919 was the first year he spent with the Yankees and he would become one of the best in the game winning 26 games in 1920 and 27 in 1921. He is better remembered however for throwing the ball that killed infielder Ray Chapman a year after this photo was taken.
