1910 Silver gelatin original portrait photograph of one of the best young hitters in the American League, Tris Speaker of the Boston Red Sox. Along with Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe Jackson, Speaker represented the new wave of hitters taking over the game and this is one of his most impressive images ever taken. The stamped number and barely seen etched name on the negative suggest this is the work of Paul Thompson, but with the original photo attached to a thicker board for protection years ago, it is impossible to tell for sure. The quality of the image is perfect as the clarity is off the charts, and the condition is likewise pretty nice with some minor corner wear. This is the finest photograph of Tris Speaker we have ever seen in person in twenty years of collecting vintage baseball photographs and only the Carl Horner portrait can compare in quality and age.
