1910 Photograph of the manager of the New York Highlanders (Yankees) George Stallings who at the time was accusing superstar infielder Hal Chase of throwing games for gamblers. An incredible piece of baseball history from the Gilliams Press Syndicate, they were the first company to put paper captions on the back of their images and we are glad they did because the information on this one is really cool. It reads, "New picture of George Stallings, manager of the New York Americans who accuses Hal Chase of laying down in his playing. Owner Frank Farrell has arrived at Chicago to investigate the charges made against Chase by Stallings and will lay the matter before President Johnson." Farrell was afraid of losing his star and instead, got rid of Stallings who went to Boston and piloted the Miracle Braves to the Championship in 1914.
