In 1905 when the Detroit Tigers took a tour down south for Spring Training, there was no big league team. Naturally fans of all demographics wanted to get an up close look at the stars of the diamond, including a couple of black children from New Orleans. Here they pose proudly with Bill Coughlin the slick fielding infielder of the Tigers who while willing to oblige, appears to be keeping his distance as would be expected in the post Civil-War south. A unique silver gelatin original from the estate of former teammate Matty McIntyre, this is still adhered to his scrapbook page but the photo itself is perfect. A fantastic and unique original that really tells a story about the changing direction of the game of baseball!
