Hilltop Park was sort of a hole of a ballpark, but it has today garnered a sort of cult-like love affair with fans it was the home of the Yankees and represents a sort of romantic vestige of the deadball era. It did not have nearly enough seats, but on the rare occasion that the Highlanders sold out, they just kept selling tickets and let the fans right on the field. This must have been a big game back in 1907 because not only are the seats jam packed, but there are probably a thousand fans packed all around the playing field, right up to the base lines! A passed ball or hard foul could have proved to be a disaster for an inattentive fan, but the resulting image is everything we love about the game of baseball. It is interesting to note that players can be seen mingling with the fans in the middle of the game and it appears the Yankees are batting. One of the top pieces of baseball photography we have ever seen in any form and while the clarity is off the charts, it does have some chipping and wear to the edges and corners. While this image is special in its own right, it is of note that this handwriting appears to be that of New York based photographer Charles Conlon, but it is not identified as such and is only our opinion.
