While he was entering into his 13th year as a pitcher for the Giants, he was still the cream of the crop and would post 23 wins and a 2.12 ERA in leading the Giants to the World Series once again. The offered photograph captures Matty from head to toe and with an exceptional stadium backdrop adding to the allure of the vintage silver gelatin masterpiece. One of the few images known to capture Mathewson in this pose, this was taken by a photographer from the Chicago Tribune. Absolutely dating to 1912 by the uniform, the date stamp and later paper caption were added when the photo was used a year and a half later regarding the possibility of Mathewson jumping to the Federal League. Certified as a "vintage 1" by RMY Auctions and also authenticated by PSA as a "Type 1", this is an exciting piece of photography that we are proud to offer here in nice overall condition with some handling wear from publication and storage in a news room.
