Waite Hoyt was one of the most highly touted prospects of the era, signing with John McGraw of the Giants at the age of 15! He needed some time to develop though and somewhere along the way he was sold to the Boston Red Sox. When the Yankees acquired the "Schoolboy Wonder" in 1920, he was seen as a bit of a bust and the world had moved past his promise and potential on to other things. They would soon be talking about Hoyt a LOT! He immediately made an impact and was perhaps one of the most important pieces of the New York Yankees dynasty of the 1920's cementing his place as one of the top pitchers in the league and a Hall of Famer. The offered image is difficult to pinpoint as far as the age because Hoyt is wearing an odd assemblage of uniform pieces that could be attributed to either a Yankees or Red Sox Spring Training, but it is certainly no later than 1921 and could be as early as 1918. Taken by world famous photographer Charles Conlon and stamped on the back, this is finest Hoyt we have seen all things considered! Condition and quality are both outstanding.
