Large horizontal photograph from the off-season (after the Indians had won the 1920 World Series) showing two of their stars enjoying some rest and relaxation. Taken in late 1920, the image captures Smokey Joe Wood and Bill Wambsganss posed together in their hunting clothes and looking like they need a bath and a shave but enjoying the time off from the rigors of baseball. Hunting provided relaxation for baseball players, but in the days before gym memberships and modern fitness, it was estimated (by Ty Cobb in his biography) that he walked 20-30 miles per day while hunting and it gave him the strength and endurance to face another baseball season! This is a unique image which was recently discovered and has never been sold (or seen) before. Condition is wonderful and the image quality is outstanding.
