Original oversized photograph of soldiers heading off the boats and onto Iwo Jima island on February 22, 1945. Taken by famous Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Joe Rosenthal as he disembarked with the troops. He would head onto the island and into the history books. The next day he would accompany a group of Marines to the top of Mt. Suribachi and take a picture of them raising a flag over the island that would win him a Pulitzer Prize and become one of the most famous (possibly THE most famous) war time images ever taken! It is incredible that this photograph is from the day before the most famous photograph ever taken and is the work of a skilled photographer who managed to take a high quality image with death all around him. An important new offering that although unstamped is an original from the late 1940's! Photo presents extremely well but the upper right corner has a small spot of paper loss and the back is a bit sticky from being mounted at one time for a display. This is the largest example of this photo we have ever seen.
