Mark Workman was the best player on the University of West Virginia's Basketball team in 1952 so when he went down with a terrible injury to his nose, all seemed lost. He had an idea, wearing a mask similar to what a few young hockey goalies were wearing, he could still play! The offered image is the first example we have ever seen of a basketball player wearing a protective mask and it is a wonderful example in great condition. A rare piece of basketball history issued by the United Press.
