The tale of John "Mysterious" Montague is one for Hollywood. A criminal who got away with robbery in New York, he fled to California where he became a reclusive golf legend, beating the best players in the world and befriending the biggest celebrities of the silver screen. He hated to have his picture taken (because he was a fugitive) but eventually he was discovered when Time Magazine secretly ran a story on him. After he was acquitted of the crime, his golf game deteriorated and he was forgotten to history. An extremely rare photo taken in 1937, this image captures the trick shot artist as he goes through his incredibly vast array of golf clubs before a match with Babe Ruth! Issued by the International News, this is the only photo of Montague we have ever offered for sale.
