With all due respect to all other pitchers that had dominant years in baseball, Steve Carlton was better in 1972! He won 27 games and had an ERA under 2.00 for one of the worst teams in baseball history. It has been speculated that had Carlton played on a better team, he might have won 40 games in 1972. A spectacular image taken during this monumental season, Carlton is looking a bit apprehensive as he glances toward the mound at the last second before the shutter clicked on the camera as if to say "here we go again"! One of the only images taken from this spectacular season we have ever seen and it presents well with a light crease at the top being the only flaw.
