Large 1946 action photo of two of the greatest legends in Negro League baseball history as they tear up the bases for the Homestead Grays. Buck Leonard is about to hit third as he looks back at the man who slammed the ball in the first place, Josh Gibson, who is about to hit second after slamming a double. Not only is this a rare piece in that it pictures both players, it represents a changing of the guard in the Negro Leagues as Gibson was in his final season (he would be dead within a year) and Leonard was just getting started with this being one of the earliest images of him we have seen. Photo is clean and bold with crystal clarity and it presents well despite some edge chipping and handling wear. Player identifications and note to location and date were done at the time (1946) while the autograph of Leonard was done later. One of the most important pieces of baseball history we have ever offered and a museum quality relic of two of baseball's most important Hall of Famers!
